Expert advisor - Specialist Coastal Resilience and Morphology

Arjen Luijendijk is an expert advisor in coastal morphology and shoreline dynamics at Deltares and associate professor at Delft University of Technology. His work focuses on tides, waves, sediment transport, seabed and shoreline dynamics, often linked to coastal infrastructure, offshore wind farms, and nature-based solutions. He holds a PhD on coastal morphodynamic modelling of the Sand Engine and developed the first global beach erosion database using historic satellite imagery. His current research advances data-model fusion and Earth Observation methods to predict and manage global coastal change under climate pressure. Arjen also contributes to user-oriented innovation, including tools such as the CoCliCo Coastal Risk App, which supports decision-making on coastal climate risks.
