PhD Candidate, Computational and Data Sciences

Amir Tofighi is a PhD candidate in Computational and Data Sciences at George Mason University, where his research focuses on applying computational modeling, GIS, and artificial intelligence to marine conservation. His doctoral research explores human interactions with North Atlantic right whales through agent-based modeling, integrating spatial, environmental, vessel, and fishing activity data to develop interactive what-if scenario tools for evaluating potential conservation strategies. His current work also incorporates bio-acoustic data and machine learning to study whale vocalizations and explore how these methods can be extended to other whale populations and geographic regions. In addition to his academic research, Amir is a Senior Systems Analyst and Developer at George Mason University, with extensive experience in software development, data systems, and application design.
