Hans Polet is science director at ILVO (Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Research, Oostende, Belgium) with a background in fishing gear technology, fleet dynamics, environmental impact of fishing and fisheries management. He is an experienced research scientist with extensive expertise in sustainable fisheries and marine research. Currently leading innovative projects at ILVO, Belgium, focused on advancing ecological and technological solutions for the fisheries sector. A recent topic is the concept of the fishing fleet as a platform for data collection. Based on this new flow of high quality, high resolution and real-time data he stimulates the development of tools beneficial for fishermen, scientists and managers all to be integrated in a digital twin of fisheries.
