Technologist at the Department of Earth System Science and Environmental Technologies of the National Research Council of Italy with a background in Astronomy and Astrophysics and a Master degree in Science Communication, Margherita Cappelletto is seconded at the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research to coordinate the European Partnership on Sustainable Blue Economy. She is also one of the Italian representatives in the Steering Committee of the Partnership. Since years she works at the interface of science and policy, including international cooperation/networking programmes and projects targeting marine and maritime science and innovation. From 2016 to 2021, as project manager of the EC funded project BlueMed Coordination and Support Action, she has been supporting the integovernmental R&I Initiative BlueMed for blue jobs and growth in the Mediterranean area. More recently she has supported the Italian Oceanographic Commission in developing the Mediterranean Programme for the UN-Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) and joined the Italian delegation at the General Assembly/Executive Council of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission. The Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership promotes joint transnational cofunded calls across a set of thematic impact-oriented intervention areas, of which one is devoted to the 'Digital Twins of the Ocean (DTOs)', namely 'DTOs test use cases at EU sea-basin scale and the Atlantic Ocean' in the case of the first joint call, with two projects awarded, and 'DTOs at regional sub basin scale' in the case of the second joint call, with more projects expected to come following the evaluation process.
